When delivered by a team with both capital market and media experience, there can be little case for in house IR management. Simply put, understanding best practice in IR needs the aforementioned talent, especially for emerging and growth companies operating in rapidly changing environments.
To maintain a competitive position against the thousands of companies trading in the equity markets, it is imperative that a company develops a proactive, strategic and consistent IR program. Ongoing communications with existing and potential shareholders, consistent messaging and maintaining a visible presence will enable brokers, investors and stakeholders to value a company on its unique fundamentals.

Strategic Messaging and Material Development
Perhaps the biggest determinant in the market’s perception of a company is its success in communicating effective and accurate messages. Rainmaker IR works with company executives to understand the messages currently being conveyed to investors, or in the case of a pre-IPO company, we work with founders and pre-IPO investors to consider future communications. This is followed by candid interviews with investors either familiar with the story or familiar with the industry to understand how the company is currently being viewed by the market and the level of understanding, awareness or desirability of the company’s messages as understood by management.
This is a process and once completed, Rainmaker IR will develop or refine messages that reflect the recently gathered information. These polished messages will then be integrated into various documents and corporate collateral including the website, fact sheets, financial media releases, investor presentations and Annual Reports, among others.
The message refinement process is an ongoing one to be undertaken regularly as companies are dynamic and evolving.
In times of significant change or growth, a company’s investment story will also change. A merger, new competitors, market slow down, demerger and changes in regulation, are all times that call for a fresh approach and targeted investor relations activity.

Media & Communications Training
Effective presentation skills are essential in attracting investors to the story. Content, structure and timing of the presentation presented by the CEO or the CFO or the CTO will go a long way in making the most of these opportunities.
We will work closely with management in fine-tuning all aspects of the financial presentation; from identifying key messages reinforcing investment appeals to strengthening management’s delivery style to be concise, effective and importantly, credible during both the presentation and during the Q&A session. In addition, we will train management and other executives on the various ASX and ASIC regulations and how they affect communications with investors and analysts.

Morris Kaplan has extensive experience across a wide range of sectors and industries including start-ups (cap raisings, IM. preparation, valuation modelling), small, mid-cap companies and, importantly, 14 years in stockbroking working both buy-side and sell-side as well as producing research for both private and institutional clients. More recently, Morris applied his business and capital market experience writing for a number of media companies including The Australian. Subsequently through his publishing firm RainmakerMedia he has produced marketing communications and other services for a range of listed and private companies as well as higher education organisations, including Flight Centre, Griffith University, Summerland Credit Union, Feros Care, 8 Hotels, Luna Park Sydney.
Morris recognises the value of producing timely and relevant content not just as statutory requirements but by guiding companies through the various stages of their evolution and identifying distinctive opportunities to promote awareness in the market by delivering compelling stories. He has strong communication (verbal, written, graphic) skills, and a deep understanding of capital markets, investor needs and the financial data tools that are often required.
Morris earned his Bachelor of Engineering (Elec) at Sydney University, completed an MBA at MGSM and obtained a Diploma from Securities Institute of Australia. He is a Board Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians.
